Lung Nodule Clinic

Lung nodules are small masses or growths that form in the lungs, often detected incidentally during a chest X-ray or CT scan. While most lung nodules are benign (non-cancerous), some may be malignant and could potentially be a sign of lung cancer. A specialized Lung Nodule Clinic within a lung clinic focuses on the evaluation, diagnosis, and management of these nodules.

Key features of a Lung Nodule Clinic :

Monitoring and Follow-up: Regular imaging (such as low dose CT scans) to monitor the size and characteristics of the nodule over time.

Risk Assessment: A comprehensive review of the patient’s risk factors (smoking history, age, family history, etc.) to determine the likelihood of malignancy.

Biopsy and Further Testing: In cases where the nodule appears suspicious, advanced procedures like endobronchial ultrasound bronchoscopy ( EBUS) and Robotic Bronchoscopy help  obtain tissue samples for analysis.

Multidisciplinary Discussion: Cases are discussed in a multidisciplinary  conference  which is composed  of radiologists, pathologist, thoracic surgeon, medical oncologist and radiation oncologist  to determine the best treatment approach, whether it’s active surveillance, surgical removal, or other interventions.
